Gabon has been a regional leader in adopting a log export ban, having adopted and effectively enforced a full ban since 2011. Since then, trade data indicates that Gabon’s forestry sector has shifted to exporting significant volumes of processed timber, a radical shift from the pre-ban state of the industry. Economic data from Gabon also indicates that the ban has contributed to a significant increase in the GDP and employment contribution of the sector.
